Join us for this online look into the costs of Indexing.

Index funds are often viewed as low-cost, passive investments designed to avoid subjective decisions and to simply deliver the returns of an asset class. However, the providers who manage the benchmarks tracked by index funds must make a number of active decisions, and these decisions can have a notable impact on index funds' returns. In this session, we'll discuss some of index investing's inefficiencies, examine the implications of how indexes are constructed and managed, and understand ways to mitigate these inefficiencies.

Learning objectives for this session include:

  • Define the active investment decisions made in the design and rebalancing of indices.

  • Identify and explain the implications of such decisions on investment outcomes in portfolios.

  • Understand how systematic active investing can mitigate some of the risks associated with indexing.
