Before, During, and After:  Addressing Temporary and/or Permanent Financial Incapacity

This is a 2-part event.

The keynote portion addresses the ways in which financial capabilities fluctuate over the course of advisors' work with their clients due to issues such as stress, mental illness, serious health diagnoses, and dementia. It outlines the widespread implications of these changes for the planning process.

Attendees will learn best practices for both proactive and responsive strategies in dealing with incapacity. In the workshop that follows, attendees will dive into the problem of unimplemented advice.

Our presenter will be Dr. Moira Somers. 

Dr. Moira Somers is a psychologist, family wealth consultant, and executive coach. She specializes in the psychology of money. Her book, Advice that Sticks: How to Give Financial Advice that People Will Follow, tackles the problem of unimplemented financial advice. It has been adopted as an authoritative guidebook by such diverse groups as postsecondary institutions, investment firms, family offices, and credit counseling agencies.

Dr. Somers is the Chair of Family Dynamics for the Ultra High Net Worth Institute and a faculty member at the Financial Transitionist Institute. She is a featured guest and writer for many financial advising/family office podcasts and publications. 

In her consulting practice, Dr. Somers addresses matters that range from the highly personal concerns of individuals and families all the way up to broader service, design, and structural issues affecting financial follow-through and equitable access to capital.  Although Canada is her home, her client base is international.
