The Federal Reserve is now singularly focused on fighting inflation. Chair Powell has stated that monetary policy will continue to tighten until the committee is convinced inflation is in retreat. Eddy Vataru, lead portfolio manager for the Osterweis Total Return Fund, will examine the major economic forces that are driving the current wave of inflation and discuss what indicators the Fed will be watching as it sets its policy going forward. Eddy will cover near-term inflationary pressures, such as pandemic-related supply-chain disruptions and the Ukraine war, as well as longer-term demographic shifts that could also be inflationary. He will examine how past Fed policy decisions have contributed to the current situation and suggest how these observations can be used to identify opportunities for active management of fixed income portfolios.
