Estate Planning with Difficult Assets
October 29, 2021
12:00 - 2:30 pm
2.0 CFP CEs
Three attorneys will discuss estate planning with difficult assets, such as cryptocurrency, mineral rights and more. Cryptocurrencies are being purchased by individuals alongside ordinary investment assets. Ownership of crypto assets has exploded over the past five years and is predicted to continue growing in popularity. Over the same period, private ownership of mineral interests has expanded enormously in conjunction with the shale gas boom. Despite the slowing market in 2020, private mineral owners are estimated to have received over $22 billion in direct compensation over the past year. As the number of individuals owning these difficult assets continues to grow the estate planning issues multiply.
- What kinds of authorization do fiduciaries need to deal with cryptocurrencies?
- What happens to crypto assets when the owner dies without conveying ownership?
- How are mineral assets valued and conveyed?
- How can mineral interests be used for long term succession planning?
Learn why special consideration may be required for some of these assets and gain tools you can use to address these issues.
