Carolyn McClanahan, MD, CFP® 

Dr. McClanahan is a physician turned financial planner. In addition to working in her financial planning practice, Dr. McClanahan speaks regularly on the interplay between health and financial issues, particularly regarding aging, chronic illness, end of life, long term care, health care reform, and health care costs. She writes for Forbes and Financial Planning Magazine and is quoted regularly in the Washington Post, New York Times, CNBC, and NPR.


 Brian Portnoy, Ph.D., CFA

Brian Portnoy is the director of investment education at Virtus Investment Partners, where he leads the firm’s educational and content initiatives on behavioral finance and investment solutions. Mr. Portnoy has worked in the mutual fund and hedge fund industries for the past 18 years. Prior to joining Virtus in 2014, he held senior investment and strategy roles at Chicago Equity Partners, Mesirow Financial, and Morningstar. Mr. Portnoy is the author of The Investor’s Paradox: The Power of Simplicity in a World of Overwhelming Choice (St. Martin’s Press, 2014), which helps investors navigate the complex landscape of traditional and alternative investment strategies; and The Geometry of Wealth: How to Shape a Life of Money and Meaning (Harriman House, forthcoming), which explains how money and happiness intersect. He is a regular contributor to Forbes.com, has spoken to audiences globally about investing and decision-making, and has lectured at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as part of its Leading Authors series. Mr. Portnoy pursued his research and teaching interests in political economy at the University of Chicago, where he earned his doctorate. He earned a B.A. from the University of Michigan. Mr. Portnoy is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charterholder and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.

Luke Farrell - American Funds - “Myths, Realities and Actionable Ideas in Fixed Income”

Luke Farrell is a fixed income investment director at Capital Group and leads the fixed income investment specialist team, globally. He specializes in core and credit fixed income strategies at Capital. His experience includes portfolio implementation, process enhancement, and pension strategy design. He has 25 years of investment industry experience and has been with Capital Group for 13 years. Prior to joining Capital, Luke was a credit and quantitative analyst, trader and core portfolio manager with J.P. Morgan Asset Management. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia. Luke is based in Los Angeles.

Nicholas J. Foley, Westcore/SBH - "Municipal Bond/Colorado Economic Update: Finding Opportunities in the Muni Market"

Nick Foley is a Senior Portfolio Manager for Segall Bryant & Hamill’s Fixed Income group. He is also responsible for municipal credit research and trading. Mr. Foley joined the firm in May 2018 as part of SBH’s acquisition of Denver Investments. During his five-year tenure with Denver Investments, he served as a portfolio manager and municipal credit analyst and trader on the fixed income team. Prior to joining Denver Investments, Mr. Foley was an Associate Portfolio Manager and Lead Fixed Income Trader at the Bank of the West/BNP Paribas Group and a financial analyst with Janus Capital Group. Prior to that, he was a Senior Analyst at Washington Mutual Bank. Mr. Foley earned his B.A. from Gonzaga University and has been in the investment industry since 2007.

Chad Hamilton is Founder and President of Advisor Solutions 360. Chad has more than 20 years of experience in the wealth management industry. He’s a Certified Financial Planner™ and Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy who builds tools and resources to help advisors and wealth management firms differentiate and grow their businesses. He has led practice management for one of the largest RIAs in the country, where he provided training in best practices and niche client strategies for nearly 200 wealth advisors. He also led a team of 50 financial planners and wealth specialists as National Director of Wealth Planning for a large regional bank. Prior to founding DPL, Mr. Lau was chief operating officer of Jefferson National, a leading innovator of tax-advantaged investing strategies for RIAs and fee-based advisors at broker dealers.

Keith Renninson - "Tenacity, Resilience, Imagination, and Purpose"

Keith Renninson is a Colorado native attending Douglas County High School, Arapahoe Community College, Metropolitan State University and the College for Financial Planning.  His education was spread out over several decades with two years in the Army with a tour in the Vietnam War. Mr. Renninson started with New York Life in 1975 when he was 27, acquired his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 1989 and retired from planning in 2001. Mr. Renninson was President of his Life Underwriters Association 1995-1999. His new book “Tenacity: You Don’t Have to Get Lost in Nepal to Find Yourself, But it Helps!” is based on the second trip when he traveled alone and got lost for a few days in the Himalayas. Rick Tomney - Little Harbor Advisors - "AI, Machine Learning & Big Data in Asset Management and Financial Advice"

Mr. Tomney is responsible for strategic business development at LHA including sales and key client relationships. Mr. Tomney has been in the investment industry for over 30 years and has been involved in strategic product positioning, sales and marketing of investment products for most of his career. Prior to LHA, Mr. Tomney has held senior management heading up sales, client service and product development functions for several prestigious invest firms. Mr. Tomney was most recently Head of Sales and Client Service for F-Squared Investments, and was previously employed and held the titles of Director at FMR Co., Vice President at Putnam Investments and Vice President at United Asset Management, Inc. Mr. Tomney received a BS in management from Boston College and an MBA with concentrations in Finance and Marketing from the Wallace E. Carroll School of Management at Boston College.
